Tillandsia Tectorum Care Instructions

Light:
Provide bright, indirect light for best growth. Tillandsia tectorum appreciates plenty of light and can tolerate some gentle direct morning sun. Avoid intense afternoon sunlight through glass, especially during hot weather, as it can cause the plant to dry out too quickly.

Water:
Tillandsia tectorum has excellent drought tolerance and generally prefers less frequent watering than many other air plants. When watering is needed, thoroughly rinse or briefly soak the plant with room-temperature water, then gently shake off excess moisture.

Allow the plant to dry completely before placing it back in its display. Avoid leaving it wet for prolonged periods.

Humidity:
Average household humidity is usually suitable. Because of its dense trichomes, Tillandsia tectorum is particularly well adapted to drier conditions. Avoid excessive moisture combined with poor airflow.

Air Circulation:
Excellent air circulation is important. After watering, place the plant in an open, well-ventilated area where it can dry quickly.

Temperature:
Maintain temperatures between approximately 50–90°F and protect from freezing temperatures and prolonged extreme heat.

Fertilizer:
Fertilizing is optional but can encourage healthy growth and blooming. Feed approximately once a month during the growing season with a diluted fertilizer formulated for air plants or bromeliads. Always follow the fertilizer manufacturer's dilution instructions.

Important Care Tip

Do not overwater Tillandsia tectorum. Its fuzzy, trichome-covered leaves are specially adapted to capture moisture from the air and tolerate drier conditions. When watering, focus on thoroughly wetting the plant and then allowing it to dry completely with plenty of airflow.
