Purple Leaf Sandcherry
The Prinus x Cistena - Purpleleaf Sand Cherry is a hardy flowering shrub with unique reddish-purple foliage, and maintains its coloring well throughout the summer months. Grows in A rounded shape with long serrated leaves and light pink to white blossoms. Blooms fragrant blossoms in late April-early May followed by small yield of blackish colored drupes in July.
Fruit is edible yet slightly acidic, commonly used in jams jellies and pie. Considered and important food source for wildlife such as robins, cardinals and coyotes, birds commonly nest in their branches as well.
Full sun to partial sun.
