- Ferocactus Latispinus is native to Mexico. Unlike other species of Ferocactus which are more spherical, Ferocactus Latispinus has a flatten globular shape. The spines are red, wide, curved and flatten, which give this cactus its nickname "Devil's Tongue Barrel", or "Fish Hook".
- In winter, it produces violet or yellow funnel-shaped flowers.
- It can be grown as a houseplant where the climate is temperate.
