The Malus Pumila 'Honeycrisp' - 'Honey Crisp' is known for their sweetness, firmness and tartness. It is an ideal apple for eating raw but also does great is pies. It has quickly become one of Americas favorite apples. Prune your apple trees in between December and February. Your Honey Crisp Apples will be ready to harvest in September and have long shelf life when stored in cool dry conditions. 

The Honeycrisp apple needs another variety of apple tree for cross-pollination.

Size: Mature size can reach 14'-18' x 12'-15'

Hardiness zone: 3 - 7

Characteristics: Grows in a full, oval, spreading shape. White to pink flowers. Medium red colored fruit. Has a chill hours (CU) requirement of 800-1,000. (Chill hours are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season.) Produces fruit in 2-5 years.

Growth Rate: Moderate

Soil, Water, Fertilize: Moist, loamy, well-draining pH 6.0-7.0. Intolerant to drought. Tolerant to heat and colder temperatures. Prune in late winter to promote growth and shape the tree. Fertilize in early spring.
