Apple Tree 'Granny Smith' (Zones 5 to 9)
The Malus Domestica - 'Granny Smith' apples are a classic favorite for its crisp bite and sweet-tart flavor. Produces large green apples with white speckles and firm, creamy white flesh. During the springtime, this tree blooms small white flowers. Normally used in baking or cider but fresh is always an option. This tree does seem to hold onto its fruits rather than dropping them to the ground, so not only you but other wildlife can enjoy its freshness. This fruit can stay fresh up to six months if properly stored.
This tree is self-fertile but improves harvest when planted with other varieties to be cross-pollinated. Some options would be Fuji, Gala, Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious. Produces fruit well into early winter months.
